8 Canadian Part-Time Jobs for Students

In Canada, students can take on flexible jobs that help them earn while gaining the necessary experience. Below, we discuss eight excellent part-time job options that are ideal for students. These jobs will also help them build the skills they require in the future.

    1. Retail Sales Associate

This is usually a part-time job, likely for college students. It can involve assisting customers, managing inventory, and maintaining an organized store. The retail experience also creates opportunities to develop your communication and customer service skills. In Canada, you can expect to make about $14 to $16 an hour on average, but that number will vary depending on location and store.

    2. Food Service Worker

If you work at a restaurant, café, or fast food place, then you have served food in one capacity or another. Students wishing to earn money while having experience dealing with customers in the hospitality sector should consider food service. We all know some tips can increase your earnings, and on average, we get $14-$18 as an hourly rate for working in fast food chains.

    3. Tutor

If you’re pretty strong in any subject, it can be an excellent part-time job. You may tutor students in math, science, languages, or even test preparation. This job has an advantage regarding flexibility in terms of hours. Your rates can be set mostly for tutoring jobs, and your potential earnings may go from $15 to $30 per hour based on the level of subject mastery and experience as a tutor.

    4. Library Assistant

A library assistant role requires one to aid in sorting books, help visitors at the library, and ensure the library’s systems are maintained. Library assistants allow students to work in a fuss-free environment while working in community and university libraries all over the globe. Library assistants are one of the few roles that don’t require much dedication as they have fixed hours while ensuring a healthy work-life balance. In Canada, the average Pay for a library assistant ranges from $14 to $17 per hour, depending on the additional responsibilities assigned.

    5. Delivery Driver

There are many reasons that delivery driving is a popular choice for college students. One possible reason is that as private drivers, they can choose their working hours, and delivering food for intermediary companies also contributes significantly to their income. The average price of a delivery driver is between $15 and $20 an hour without tips.

    6. Freelancer

Freelancing is an excellent option for students who are trying to get involved in content creation or even social media management because it allows you to work with writers, editors, graphic designers, and many more. An extra benefit of freelancing is that the Pay is relatively high, with many creators charging an average of $20 to CAD 50 per hour.

    7. Internships

Through internships, students gain experience in the fields they are interested in pursuing after university. Internships sometimes do not pay; however, some companies compensate for the time spent in their industry, thus allowing the interns to get a feel for a professional setting. Interns are usually hired for different positions, with most of them setting the pay range between $15 and $25  per hour.

    8. Cleaner/Janitor

You can choose to work as a cleaner or janitor, which is a simple job for a student. Alternative employment includes cleaning offices, schools, and other institutions at night or on weekends. This further raises the amount of money you could make, as long as you don’t mind the harsh working conditions and working alone. You can easily earn an hourly base of around $14 to CAD 18  for cleaners and janitors.
