Recording lectures isn’t new, but it’s being done a lot more today. Those who teach have access to more software and better tools to help them record lectures that can be provided to students for online learning or as additional information for those who are in the classroom. There are actually numerous benefits of doing this, including the following.

    • Encourages Interaction with the Lesson
    • Students Can Review Difficult Information Later

    • Slow Down or Repeat Audio as Needed
    • Review Information More Times
    • Have More Time to Take Notes
    • Can Switch to Virtual Learning if Needed

Easy to Provide Additional Access to Lectures

Teachers and professors have the ability to provide additional access to the information for their students. This is just one more way students can receive the information they need to be able to not only pass the class but retain the information so they’re able to use it in the future. Sites like epiphan.com offer solutions for how to record the lectures to make it easier for teachers, enabling them to record all of their lectures to benefit the students.

Allows Students to Listen Instead of Take Notes

Students can retain information better if they’re focused on what they’re learning. Unfortunately, taking notes during a lecture can take away from this focus. They may not be able to write everything down fast enough or could miss important information as they’re trying to take notes. When the lecture is available online for them to view after class, they don’t have to worry about taking notes.

Students can sit back and listen to the lecture, then take notes on the information when it’s easier for them to do so. This provides a better opportunity for listening and absorbing the information before they view it a second time to take notes and can help them improve their note-taking so they only write down the essentials and nothing that isn’t needed.

    Encourages Interaction with the Lesson

Studies for many years have shown that interacting with lectures can help students learn. If students aren’t busy taking notes, they have the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification for things they don’t understand. Interaction with the lesson can help them pay more attention to it, too, so they end up retaining more of what they learn about during the lecture. This not only helps improve their grades but can help them do better later in school, too.

Students Can Review Difficult Information Later

There is likely information that is more difficult to remember but might be vital for the student now or in the future. Being able to review the lecture gives them the opportunity to hear it again later, which can help them remember it better. The more times they can watch the lecture, the easier it is for them to remember the information and be able to use it in the future. If they can stream the lecture, they can review it as many times as they’d like, too, so they can make sure they understand more complex lessons with ease.

    Benefits for Students With Disabilities

Students will disabilities may have a harder time keeping up with the pace of lectures in classrooms, but this can be fixed by offering recorded lectures that students can view at home. This helps any students with disabilities, whether or not they have in-classroom accommodations to help them. Some of the ways recorded lectures can help these students include the following.

    Watch at a Slower Pace

Students with disabilities may not be able to easily keep pace with lectures in person. By watching a recorded lecture, they can slow it down and take breaks as needed to make sure they’re able to pay attention and learn everything from the lecture.

    Read Captions While Watching

For students with hearing impairments, being able to view captions can make it much easier for them to focus on the lecture and get more information from it. The captions can be typed by the teacher for better accuracy and to ensure students are able to get the information even if they can’t hear the teacher speaking easily.

Slow Down or Repeat Audio as Needed

Sometimes it’s necessary to slow down the audio or repeat it for a student to understand what they’re hearing. With a recorded lecture, this is easy to do and they can listen to part of the lecture as many times as necessary to understand it. If they need further help, they can ask and get the help they need.

    Review Information More Times

Recorded lectures available for students to stream mean that students can watch the entire lecture as many times as necessary to learn the material and make sure they understand it. This may be perfect for reviewing before tests or tackling more complex material.

Have More Time to Take Notes

Some students are not able to easily take notes while they listen to a lecture. If it’s recorded, they have more time to take notes and write down things they may need to remember. This can help them to study and learn the information at their own pace.

Can Switch to Virtual Learning if Needed

With the pandemic, many teachers found out how important it would be for them to have a way to reach students if a switch to virtual learning was necessary. Though everyone is back in the classroom and ready to learn now, there may be times when students will need to be out for a period of time. Having the ability to stream the lecture means these students won’t miss anything important. They can do the class on their own time while they’re away from school and will have all of the information they need available to them. Those who need an extended period away from the classroom for medical or other issues can still stay caught up or catch up on their own.

Recording lectures is an easy way to provide more help to all students, especially with some of the software and other tools available today. This can help all students learn better, retain the information they learn, and do better in their classes so they are able to thrive. Take a look at the help available to learn how to start recording your lectures to provide all of these benefits to your students.
